Discover Space Through STEM

Galactic Explorers Camp introduces K–8 students to STEM through hands-on activities inspired by space science and exploration. Young explorers investigate rockets, robotics, astronomy, planets, and other concepts that bring the universe closer to their everyday learning. Activities encourage campers to ask questions, experiment with ideas, and discover how science and technology connect to space. Students also have opportunities to solve challenges, think creatively, and learn alongside fellow explorers. With curiosity guiding each experience, the camp gives young learners an engaging way to explore STEM and imagine where their interests could take them.

  • Rocket Building: Explore basic rocket concepts through hands-on building activities that introduce students to how rockets are created and prepared for launch.
  • Solar System Exploration: Journey through the solar system while discovering planets, moons, and other features that make our cosmic neighborhood fascinating.
  • Moon & Mars Missions: Explore the Moon and Mars through mission-inspired activities that encourage students to think about exploration, challenges, and discovery beyond Earth.
  • Astronomy Activities: Investigate stars, planets, and other celestial objects while developing curiosity about what exists throughout the universe.
  • STEM Challenges: Take on interactive challenges that bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics together through experimentation and problem-solving.
  • Robotics Introduction: Discover introductory robotics concepts and explore how machines and technology can support tasks associated with space exploration.

What the Camp Experience Looks Like

Learning becomes an adventure as campers explore STEM concepts through activities, experiments, and space-inspired challenges. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, work with others, and approach problems from different perspectives. Guided by the belief that “No idea is a bad idea,” the experience gives young explorers room to be curious, inventive, and involved as they discover more about STEM and space.

Program Support & Partnerships

Pathway to Space Camp is funded in part through the New Mexico Legislature, with program development support from the 21st Century Academic Enrichment Programs and the Institute of Competition Sciences. These contributions support educational content and resources that encourage STEM learning, critical thinking, and active exploration.

The program also receives support from the New Mexico Space Grant Consortium (NMSGC), part of NASA’s National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program. Through this connection, students can engage with resources and perspectives related to space science and technology while learning more about the fields that contribute to space exploration.

Together, these resources and program relationships help Pathway to Space Camp expand students’ exposure to STEM and encourage them to explore science, technology, engineering, and future possibilities in the space industry.
